Barbara Kosen and her Sangha gather in Shorin-ji for the Winter Camp, a traditional end-of-year retreat, from December 28, 2024 to January 1, 2025.
Friday 27th: Arrival in the afternoon. Opening dinner around 9 p.m.
Saturday 28th: Preparation for the Sesshin. We started Zazen at an almost intensive pace (3 Zazen a day)
Sunday 29th, Monday 30th: Sesshin, intensive Zazen until after midnight on the second day.
Tuesday 31st: Rest, breakfast, and Samu. Festive New Year’s Eve dinner at 9:30 pm. As 00:00 approaches, and next to the glow of the great bonfire, the ceremony of the 108 Bonno, a figure that in the East evokes the limitlessness of passions. Since they are unlimited, they cannot limit us. We express it by ringing the bell. Everything has passed, it is extinct, our Zazen skin is now new like a child’s. Party, music… not forgetting that the next day the first Zazen of the year takes place.
Wednesday, January 1st: Breakfast, Zazen and Fuse ceremony. Each one offers a donation to the Buddha according to his or her means, as well as incense. Then, at noon, the New Year’s celebration lunch.
After that, the practice continues until January 5th, with Zazen and Samu to the daily rhythm of the temple.
No previous experience is necessary, if it is your first Sesshin you just have to consult us to explain in detail how to join.
