On the occasion of the All Saints bank holiday, Asociación Zen Taisen Deshimaru has organized in Shorin-Ji a four days period of Zazen & Samu for all those wishing to participate.
Samu means activity not oriented to any profit but to help establish the selfless practice of Zazen -just sitting, body and mind united in the present moment. It is great in its simplicity and immensely rich in its humility. It comprises different kinds of manual labor that strengthen our nervous system as we keep awareness in the coordination of bodily actions without losing ourselves in mental wandering. “One thought, one action” as Sensei Barbara Kosen points out.
Participating we can find our original person and give ourselves to others for the good of the sangha. It is of great importance in a Zen life. Master Hyakujo advised: “A day without samu, a day without food”. Energy liberated through Zazen goes to daily life by means of our actions and from daily life it goes back to Zazen drawing a circle with no beginning and no end. We just settle ourselves in the present moment.
The schedule: Zazen at dawn, breakfast, samu, meal, rest, samu, zazen at dusk and bed.
Shared expenses amount to 12 € per day. Those new to Shorin-Ji must join the Asociación Zen Taisen Deshimaru and pay a fee of 20 € which covers one year.
