WISHES FOR THE NEW YEAR

WISHES FOR THE NEW YEAR
LETTER FROM MASTER BARBARA KOSEN
Dear friend, You see…. This new year will be the same as the previous one, and therefore always anew. Birth or death, love or split, success or failure, money or debt, friendship or antagonism, truth or corruption, it is always difficult to keep a balance that bring us happiness. How can we obtain freedom from this floating world where we are never certain about what is going to happen to us next? In my youth, I received the answer from Master Taisen Deshimaru, through the practice of the Way of Zen, the Zazen-Decision,…Read [+]

THE WAY IN CUBA

THE WAY IN CUBA
On the 24th transportation for the 27th had been canceled and it didn’t look like anything could be done about that. I told  the few who were interested that everything would be all right, to not loose hope, that something better would be arranged for. On Saturday morning I did zazen. When we left the Dojo we, Julito and Dayan, went for a coffee. We arranged with somebody who owns a bus to come to the Dojo on Monday the 27th at 8 in the morning. This is how we left on a…Read [+]

A Dome for the Sangha

A Dome for the Sangha
A year ago there began at Shorin-Ji a project to build a dome to be used as bedchamber, a comfortable sleeping accommodation situated at an open space in the woods of the new yard. The dome consists of a geodesic cupola, of which the original model was invented and patented by architect Richard Buckminster Fuller in the 50’s. The half-round structure of the dome is erected from triangles formed by iron bars cut to measure, with a wooden platform serving as base of the whole structure, supported by pillars to prevent moisture and…Read [+]

Barbara Kosen and Shorinji: interview and report in Extremadura media
Over the last twenty years, since the founding of the Mokusan Dojo in Madrid (1994) there have been many interviews and reports that have made us in the Spanish media. During the autumn of 2016 we received journalists from Canal Extremadura TV and the newspapers Hoy and El Comercio. In November, the Extremadura TV Channel visited Shorinji and interviewed our Master, publishing the report on the Extra-Tarde program on November 18. The other media in Extremadura echoed the program and we received the visit of the journalists during the first week of December,…Read [+]

Leonard Cohen: portrait of a zen monk

Leonard Cohen: portrait of a zen monk
Through a well-documented and extensive article, our Sangha mate , journalist and writer Luis Landeira, publishes in Jot Down Magazine the experience of Leonard Cohen as a zen monk. After a musical tour that left him exhausted, in 1994 Leonard Cohen, practicing since the early 70's, decided to retire to the Mount Baldy Zen Center in Los Angeles, directed by Master Joshua Sasaki. For two years, the poet and composer participated as any other member of the Sangha, doing zazen and combining it with the samu: cutting vegetables, fixing the garden or cleaning…Read [+]
