Master Barbara Kosen will be conducting the traditional Winter Camp, a retreat to mark the transition to the New Year, from December 28 until January 1st, at Shorin-ji Zen Temple.
Tuesday December 27: Arrival during the afternoon. Opening dinner around 21:00 hours.
Wednesday 28: Preparation for the Sesshin, moving forward to an increasing recurrence to Zazen.
Thursday 29: Sesshin -intensive Zazen- until Friday midnight and beyond.
Saturday 31: Rest, breakfast and samu. Special New Year’s Eve dinner at 21:30. Approaching 00:00 hours: transit into the new year holding the traditional ceremony of the 108 Bonnos, at which all those attending participate striking the temple bell until 108 bell strokes are completed. Ceremony of Fire. Hugs, kampai –i.e., toast– and party.
Sunday, January 1st: After breakfast, first Zazen of the year and Fuse ceremony, aimed at practicing Gift, i.e., each person wholeheartedly offers at the Buddha’s altar a donation and an incense stick. Afterwards, a meal to bring the camp to its closure and celebrate the happiness of practice.
For those who wish to continue practicing at the Temple the following days, the usual rhythm of zazen and samu will be resumed.
28 to 31: (Sesshin) 90 Euros
28 to 1: (Sesshin & Reveillon) 120 Euros.
3 to 7: (Samu) 12 Euros per day
It is necessary to:
- Be a member of Asociación Zen Taizen Deshimaru, which requires registration of your personal data and a subscription fee of 20 Euros (covers one year). Registrations may be got at Shorin-ji or here.
- Bring winter sleeping bag, eating bowl and flash light.
